Cleaning manzanita and boings

Postby Danny » Mon Oct 26, 2009 4:26 pm

So yesterday I got the hq flight cage and the lady who I got it from gave me two boxes of perches and toys. I want to make sure that my fids don't get sick from any germs on the perches but I don't know how to clean them. Can I just put the manzanita perches in the dishwasher or is that not a good idea? She also gave me a boing which I have no idea how to clean. Please help!

I don't recommend bleach. That can be dangerous if it doesn't all get washed out. Instead, I recommend using a good disinfectant or OxyFresh Gele (to soak it in).

While working at the humane society, I saw some dogs, especially hounds, that were allergic to the bleach we used to clean the kennels. Poor girls and guys they would scratch themselves raw before we figured out the problem. I would hate to find out what it could do to parrots and other birds.

I find that a great way to clean waste off of manzanita branches before disinfecting is with one of these.
